The Master of Science in Engineering program prepares you for a career in roles ranging from vice president of engineering at a large tech company to the founder of a new technology startup. You will have access to career support services and professional development programs at Columbia Engineering.

The Columbia Engineering Graduate Career Placement Team will support students and help them determine the best way to bring their unique skills to the field in which they choose to work. In addition to providing students with career counseling resources such as resumé and cover letter help, our career team also networks with industry leaders to source job opportunities that align with the program’s curriculum.

Students who complete the program will be qualified to work in leadership roles. We expect graduates from the program to move onto positions such as CTO, COO, product manager, entrepreneur, startup founder, and other roles that requires a broad understanding of engineering challenges and product development.

In addition to departmental support, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences offers students career and professional development training through the school’s Professional Development and Leadership curriculum. All students are required to complete a series of professional development courses that will prepare them to succeed in the career they choose upon graduating from the program.

Careers for International Students

International students enrolled in the program and attending the university on an F-1 visa are also eligible for OPT and CPT, allowing them to gain experience in industry while completing their studies.
